 Black books
A magical book. In folklore, a "black book" provides instructions for trafficking with spirits, divinations,and acquiring and using supernatural powers. In some cases, possession of such a book, bestows supernatural powers, wealth, or luck on its owner. However, use of the book usually backfires with serious consequences. Some black books are said to be written in blood as a "pact' with the Devil. "Grimoires" are a type of black book, sets with instructions for ceremonial magical rituals for dealing with demons, angels, and other powers. Th "Key of Solomon", the "Greater" and the "Lesser", give instructions for making a black book. Made of virgin parchment, the conjurations of spirits should be written in his own blood, and will account for them appearing at anytime they are so summoned by him. The book should be covered in siginals and a plate of sliver or gold and engraved with pentangles The book shold be used on Sundays and Tuesdays.("Magic and Alchemy", p.78. Rosemary Guiley) |
